In New Haven County, first responders were dispatched to a stretch of Monowese Avenue near exit 9 in North Haven shortly before 8 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, where there was a report of a crash involving a truck that rolled over, blocking the road.

According to fire officials, the trailer was carrying non-hazardous contents, though the diesel tanks on the truck ruptured and spilled onto the roadway, causing the lengthy road closure.

Officials said that the driver was able to self-extricate himself from the tractor-trailer and he was treated for minor injuries.

Montowese Avenue remained closed for several hours to allow crews to continue clean-up efforts.

There was no estimated timetable for when the road will reopen.
